The purpose of this workshop is to provide the professional with state of the art information about phototherapy.

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify three skin disorders that would be appropriate for phototherapy and their outcomes.
  • Describe the differences between UVA and UVB light.
  • Identify the three types of lamps used in phototherapy.
  • Describe the difference between internal and external metered equipment.
  • Identify the differences between UVB and PUVA protocols.
  • Describe appropriate patients for either therapy.
  • Recognize and manage the major short and long-term side effects of phototherapy.
  • Describe why you shield and ways to shield; identify appropriate shielding materials that decrease or deter the effects of UVL.
  • Understand the importance of topicals in combination with phototherapy.
  • Documentation pitfalls.
  • What makes a successful phototherapy unit.
