The Dermatology Nurses’ Association (DNA) is accredited as a provider of nursing continuing professional development by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

Program Purpose: Dermatology nurses will be culturally competent in their practice setting. Dermatology nurses will be able to identify the key barriers that affect individuals with skin of color to obtain dermatologic care. They will also be able to identify the factors that currently create the increased incidence of atopic dermatitis in individuals with skin of color.

Learning Objectives
Upon successful completion of this educational program, the participant should be able to:

Identify the environmental, socioeconomic, and genetic factors that lead to the increased prevalence of atopic dermatitis among patients with skin of color.
Discuss the key barriers to appropriate care of atopic dermatitis among patients with skin of color.
Assess the cultural and linguistic competency with current practice.
Develop strategies to help bridge language, cultural, and socioeconomic barriers to effective atopic dermatitis care.
